Khaya’s Kitchen is the first black female owned retail production kitchen that manufacturers ready-to-eat meals. Their range is an African inspired range of products with the aim of introducing more African indigenous meals to the mainstream retail market. Things like chicken feet, stuffed dombolo, curried tripe and samp can be found on the menu.
One of the villages Khayakazi started with is uMkhubiso just outside of Alice who then became her first client. She started a project called Vunikhaya and they supply Khaya’s Kitchen with vegetables. Through their relationship they managed to employ youth from their village and surrounding villages, and they also now supply 3 local SPAR stores.
Khayakazi is very passionate about her community and creating a positive impact which drives her to look for other like-minded young business individuals who want to celebrate African indigenous products and create a global name for African cuisine.
Khayakazi Kepe starred in the first season of Masterchef SA and became a top 6 finalist. She decided to join the food industry immediately after, having worked previously in Marketing for over 8 years. She moved from Joburg to Port Elizabeth and started out selling food at various markets in Eastern Cape which is how her relationship with SPAR formed and the idea of producing ready-to-eat meals was born. Khaya’s Kitchen is now an official supplier for SPAR Eastern Cape’s in-house brands.
