Scope

The 'Three Sails' landmark is located at the approach to Hong Kong International Airport. The piece was a combined effort between Cathay Pacific's advertising agency, McCann Eriksson, who developed the general conceptual direction, and Vertigo Asia (under the management of Tractor Outdoor) who provided the planning, design and construction expertise.
Completed in April 2002, this landmark is the first high-tension fabric structure to be erected in Hong Kong and has capably provided the client with the high impact effect that was required.

The joint venture between Tractor and Vertigo in this project was initiated through the need for the identification of a suitable site for the structure; one that was close to the airport and highly visible to its users. Once established, the legislative requirements and airport authority regulations had to be addressed and allowances made in the engineering and lighting designs.

Manufacturing of the structural components was carried out in Vertigo's manufacturing facility, while site preparation and final installation was exercised by the highly experienced Vertigo Asia installation team. Tractor Outdoor successfully offered their expertise in the Operational Management that was required for this project.
